A flea comb is a useful tool for checking for fleas and flea dirt, removing dirt, leaves, sand or other dry substances from the coat, and for keeping longer coats tangle-free.

A dematting comb should be used for cats who already have mats, or they should be very gently cut out. It's far better to keep the kittens from getting mats in the first place, rather than trying to get them out later.

A "slicker" brush will remove dead hair before it has a chance to shed or be groomed by the cat, helping to prevent fur balls. (A special note: Never bath a pet with mats -- it makes them worse! Comb out the mats completely before adding soap or water to your pet's coat.)

Nail clippers are a must-have to have your pets nails trimmed frequently
