The Computer Entering the Home Changed the Business Opportunity World
When the Personal Computer went into American Homes, millions of Business Opportunity doors opened to entrepreneurs. In the past, a business opportunity was typically limited to buying into a Franchise or a Multi Level Marketing Business.
A Business Opportunity is also known as a "turn key" business. Typically when purchasing a business opportunity, you are buying, from a larger company, the rights to distribute their products, the use of their name, access to their marketing materials and an instantly established reputation for your business based upon the success of their business.
Before the Computer, business opportunities were very limited. Franchises were the most common business opportunity, but franchise ownership excluded a lot of people because of the capital required for ownership. Basically, the only other business opportunity available for consideration were multi level marketing businesses selling products such as perfume and cleaning supplies.
When the Computer came along, and later the Internet, suddenly people had many choices from which to pick a business opportunity.
What Has the Computer Done for the Business Opportunity World?
The computer has opened doors for business opportunities that people could not have even conceived of before the computer.
The computer has put small business on a more more level playing field with large business. The computer has afforded small business the opportunity to realistically compete against large business for sales, accounts and clients. The computer has created a business world where often the customers do not even know the size of the business they are dealing with.
The computer, and the communication advancements that they lead the way for, created the opportunity for so many more new and innovative types of businesses. The fact that data transmission was the primary job of many of these businesses meant the a large amount of the business could be automated. This opened up the opportunity for entrepreneurs to go out on their own and competitively get a hold in the market place.
The Computer Created the Opportunity for a Business to Market to the World
And perhaps the change which had the most impact on the business world, was the opportunity it created for all businesses, no matter where they were located, to find their market niche among the world instead of just their neighborhood.
Never could it have been conceived that a small business located in Boise Idaho would be able to have contracts from Florida, New Jersey, and Delaware plus International contracts in places as far away as Singapore, England and Germany. The small neighborhood business now had the opportunity to reach global customers.
The possibilities are endless! And today, like our ancestors, we can not conceive of where the computer has still yet to take us. Historically speaking, the computer and the technological era are really just in their infancy. It is amazing when we review all of the opportunities that have been opened for business by the computer, but if current trends continue it will be even more amazing when we see what is yet to come!
