Rainbow Songs Instruments Now Available!
Have you ever wondered where you can get the nifty instruments that we use in Rainbow Songs classes? When learning to play music, it's important for children to have good quality, age-appropriate instruments like the ones we use in class. With that in mind, we're now offering instruments for sale - ones which we think are high quality and well-designed for infants, toddlers, and young children. Groove all week long playing songs you've learned in class! Click to check out our instruments.

Gamelan Group open to children grades 5 - 13
If you have children who are the right age for this, it is a lot of fun. Gamelan is an indigenous Indonesian orchestra composed largely of pitched percussion instruments.

The name, Sekar Sunu Laras, comes from Bapak Effendi, ConsulGeneral for the Republic of Indonesia’s Consulate in Toronto. Loosely translated it means Flowering Youth: Venerable Essence of Gamelan. The gist of this meaning highlights an important interpretation of Javanese philosophy. Children are precious in Javanese culture and like flowers they grow, blossom, and bring beauty. In the beauty of sound that comes from gamelan, one understands the importance of harmony harmony in thoughts and feelings, harmony with others, and being in harmony with oneself. It is hoped that these children partake in the lessons of harmony coming from this venerated musical tradition.

Sekar Sunu Laras’s mandate is to promote the enjoyment of playing and performing on the Indonesian gamelan orchestra as well as to foster, develop, and showcase the creativity that all children have. Membership is open to children and youths from grades 5 13.

Sekar Sunu Laras is Canada’s first community gamelan group for children and youths. The group is based in Toronto, Ontario. It rehearses weekly at the Indonesia Consulate on their resplendent gamelan orchestra, Kyai Muncar Manis.
