Dave and Traci Teeter, Joe and Cindy Cone caught 4 mahi and some aku and shibi
|
We got underway at 5:15 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We took a mahi strike on our first pass and got it. Then we caught baits and ran them live, it was not long before a mahi came up and ate one, and we got it. Next aku out and it got another one, fast, this is how we like it. We got 2 more and then they stopped comming around so we headed to another bouy. On the way we had a minor mechanical problem, one engine stopped, so we slowly headed in, but on the way we took several marlin hits that did not stick. We found out that a wire to the key had lost it's connection is why it stopped. These were some good folks to fish with, but not eyeball eaters. Aloha Capt Rusty

Casey Leva, John Shrewsberry, Ken Kasper, Hale Adolpho caught 11 mahi 1 striped marlin and some aku and shibi

We got going at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took a mahi hit on our first pass and got it, then we caught some small aku and ran them live. A big bully promptly ate one and Scot baited up one more. It was a case of put out a live aku and a mahi would come along and eat it. Before long we had 10 of them. Then we set up and went to another buoy, on the way we hooked up a striper and Ken did a great job of reeling it in. At the bouy we got one more mahi and lost one. These guys did a great job on all these fish, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Chris Johnston, Parker Logan, Lester Surgener II, and Jason Jeffries (did not fish) caught 12 mahi and 1 ono and some aku and shibi

We got going at 4:00 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy, It was a rainy morning and we took a mahi hit at the buoy and got it. Then we jigged up some small aku and ran them live, the second aku we hooked up was eaten by a mahi right after it hooked up on the light line. It took a while but we got it after a long fight. Then we set up and trolled on out to 27 miles, we got a mahi in the blind out there. Then as we headed in we found a small net and got a small ono. Then we baited and got one more mahi and saw a few more but they were not hot so we had to go to an aku school a ways away and caught 3 aku and ran them live back to the net, where they were promptly eaten by mahis. We got 2 out of 3 and just had to troll whole aku to get them to bite. We ended up with 12 mahi and the one ono, by now the sun was out and it was a nice day. Back in the harbor every one except Jason ate fish eyeballs gladly. These guys did a great job today, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Ken McKinney, Nate Chio, and Bill Blackwell caught 4 mahi and some aku and shibi

We made it out at 4:55 on this day of 25 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We were the third boat there so no hits trolling, we caught a live aku and put it out and it went with a nice mahi immediatly and we got it. Then we caught some shibi and finally one more small aku and ran it live,a small mahi came around and Scot manged to bait it up despite all the birds mobing our baits. We got to go a short ways outside and found 2 open schools but only took one hit that came off. On the way in we got 2 more mahi in the blind, one a nice big bully that ate a whole aku. In the harbor all three guys swallowed eyeballs gladly. It was a fun day. Aloha Capt Rusty

We departed at 4:00 on this day of 25 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took a singe hit on our first pass and it came off, so we came back with bait and Scot hooked up 4 on that pass. Then we caught some small aku and ran then live, they were promptly eaten by some hungry mahis, one the big 34 pounder that Chuck caught. We kept baiting till they slowed down, then we went to another buoy. There we managed to get one more mahi on a live aku. Back in the harbor these guys have eaten eyeballs before so not today. They did a great job on all these fish. These are regulars with us and as always a pleasure to fish with.Aloha Capt Rusty

Jim Meinhardt caught 1 marlin 325# and 49 mahi the biggest one 54# and 1 aku and 1 shibi for a super day

We got going at 4:00 on this day of 30 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took a triple on the first pass and baited up 4 more for a great first pass. Our next bait pass got us 8 more, they were hungry today and they just kept coming. We kept on baiting and the mahi kept coming, on one of our last passes we hooked the big bully a 54 pounder that is the new year to date record. When it was all over we had 49 mahi. We set up to troll in and did not get far when a big marlin hooked up and took out 300 yards of line and never jumped once. Jim did a great job of reeling it in with a little help from Scot it was to the boat in about 30 minutes, which was even harder after all those mahi. It was not to much trouble at gaff, but it still was big and not all the way dead. Jim was a strong guy to reel all these fish in, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty

Don Takao, Judy Letendre, and Don Thompson caught 27 mahi and some aku and shibi 6 bullys were over 35#
|
We started our day at 4:00 on this day of 10 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. On our first pass we took a triple mahi and got all 3, 2 big bullys and one big wahine. The next pass we got one and baited up one more. We then caught a few small aku and ran them live, they were almost instantly eaten by a big bull and we got it. We caught a few more on bait and then went looking around, we found a stump floating and got a bunch more mahi from there. On down to the next buoy in line and we got some more baits and more mahi came in to maul them, the big bulls were all over those baits. We ended up with 27 mahi. These folks were a pleasure to fish with. They did a great job reeling all those big fish in. The one that Don Takao reeled in went 50# for a new year to date record on mahi for us, good going. In the harbor the eyes got to stay put. Great day of fishing. Aloha Capt Rusty

Dennis Gerstenberger, Don Anderson, Laverne Edwards, and Ole Barre' caught 50 mahi and some aku and shibi for a super good day of fishing

It was 4:30 when we left on this day of 10 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took a double on the first pass and baited up 1 more, then it was a single and we baited up 2 more. We then caught some small aku and ran them live, and the mahi came in on them real well, we got about 8 and took off looking around. We found a net not far away and got 24 more in about 3 passes, it was as wild as mahi fishing can get, every pole had a fish on it for many times. This is the way we like it, and these guys did great reeling all those fish in. Then we went down to another buoy and baited up 3 more mahi there and headed in. Once again we did not get too far and we found an even bigger net floating and started hooking up mahis left and right, it was multiples every pass for awhile there, we ended up with 50 mahi for the best day all year so far. We really put these guys through a work out and they did it all super well, good going men. And in the harbor they all ate mahi eyeballs too. Aloha Capt Rusty

Jim Biddle and Troy Goble caught 19 mahi and some aku and shibi

We got going at 4:30 on this day of 15 mph north winds going to my next favorite buoy. We took a double on our first pass at the buoy and got 2 more on bait for 4. Then trolled up 2 more before we caught some aku and ran them live. The mahi can't resist a small live aku and Scot baited up a bunch more. When they slowed down we went to my favorite buoy and managed to bait up 8 more mahi, to end up with19 nice size fish, with several 33 pound bullys. These guys were real fun guys to fish with, they did great with all the wild action that we had today. Back in the harbor only Jim was up for an eyeball. Great going today guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

Olen Culbertson, and Mark Bentley caught 18 mahi and 1 ono and some aku and shibi

We got a 5:45 start on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took a double in and open school on the way and got them both. At the buoy we took a double and got both too, next pass we got one. Then an ono hooked up and we got that one. Then we baited and had one real good pass where we got 7. We then caught some aku and shibi, and then set up and trolled away. We caught a few more in open schools to end up with 18 mahi and 1 ono. In the harbor only Olen was up for eating an eyeball out of a mahi. It was a great day of fishing. Aloha Capt Rusty
