Krabi Travel Guide / Krabi Hotels & Resorts, ThailandOne of the most attractive tourist destinations in southern Thailand Krabi is located Some 800 kilometers from Bangkok with an area of 4,708 square kilometers. To the West it bound on the Andaman Sea where countless natural attractions abound, including white, sandy beaches, fascinating coral reefs, numerous large and small Islands verdant forest and highly interesting archaeological remains.

Inhabitants are believed to reside in the area as far back as 25,000-35,000 B.C., as numerous stone tools, potteries, beads, ancient pictures and skeleton remains are found in many cliffs and caves. Its name first appeared to be "Baan Thai Samor" in the 12th century under the Kingdom of Ligor whose capital is the current Nakhon Si Thammarat. The region became a part of Thailand in early Rattanakosin period. As the community grows, King Chulalongkorn (the 5th King of Chakri Dynasty) raised its status to be a town and name it "Krabi".

Geography
Krabi is, perhaps, best known for the scenic karsts that make its 160 kilometers coastline one of the most spectacular in Thailand. The karsts also make up the 130 islands that are easily accessible from Krabi shores. The town of Krabi is small with over 2,000 population. It is a friendly local town that surrounded by natural mountains, the Andaman Sea and expansive agricultural land. Rubber and palm plantation together with fishery are the major means of living for the local.

Beaches and Islands:
There are vaious beaches and islands in Krabi to accommodate all kinds of needs and expectations of the tourists. The beautiful beaches ranges from the soft white sands of an intimate Phra-Nang Bay to the wide open space of Hat-Nopparrat-Thara and on out to the shimmering beach of the Pee-Pee Island. These beaches and the crystal clear green water of the Andaman Sea makes Krabi home of the most wonderful aquatic shores.

Food and Entertainment:
Krabi town is the center of, perhaps, the best and the least expensive Thai food in the South-western region. It is the food for the local Thai people and foreign visitors alike. The cuisine ranges from the Northern, North-eastern, the Central to the local Southern Thai cuisine. In addition, there are various restaurants offering many other international cuisine such as Chinese, Muslim, and European, etc. Furthermore, Krabi, much alike other seaside resorts in Southern Thailand, is the place for the fabulous seafood which always ensures variety and freshness. Though, the food is Krabi is hot and spicy, the nightlife is rather peaceful and undisturbed. Quite open air bars prevail and the beaches are always open for moonlight strolls or a small beach party.

Things to do:
There are a wide variety of adventures and interesting sights in the province of Krabi, including exploring caves and other geological wonders of the fossil shell cemetery, cliff climbing, snorkeling and scuba-diving around the undersea world of Poda or Chicken Islands, riding on a long-tail boat for the day and cruising the breathtaking coastline, fishing in the sea, staying overnight on the Phi Phi Island, witnessing the bird's nests collection in the enormous Viking Cave, visiting the near-by areas including the well-known forest temple Wat Tam Seua (Tiger Cave Temple) and Khao Phanom Benja National Park, a magical sanctuary of greenery criss-crossed with a web of small streams.

Weather
Krabi is affected by the northwest monsoon and has only two seasons. The hot Season starts in January and ends in April. The rainy season begins in May and lasts Till December. Average temperatures range between 16.9 to 37.3 Degrees Celsius. The coastal province of Krabi, 60Km due east of Phuket, continues the scenic marine karst topography typical of Ao Phang-Nga. More than 200 islands offer excellent recreational opportunities; many of the islands belong to Hat Noppharat Thara Mo Koh Phi Phi National Marine Park or Koh Lanta National Marine Park. Many of Krabi's beaches feature shimmering stretches of sand lapped by calm, clear seas and backed by vine-choked limestone cliffs. Such cliffs have turned into a world-class rock-climbing Mecca, and good reef diving is available at several offshore islets in the vicinity. Intact mangrove forests can be seen in several estuarial areas. Krabi is also a jumping off point for Koh phi phi, Koh Lanta and other islands in the area.
