was established as part
of the Division of Physical Therapy within the Department of
Allied Health Sciences in 1998 to facilitate collaborative research
on human movements at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. Human movement science is the unique integration and synthesis
of classical knowledge from many basic sciences (i.e. anatomy,
physiology, cell biology, physics) for the purposes of studying
questions related to the understanding and enhancement of human
movement in healthy individuals as well as individuals whose
movement capabilities are challenged by diseases or injuries.
