Website Privacy and Security Policy

The UNC School of Dentistry respects your right to privacy. We will never sell, rent or otherwise disclose to any other party the personally identifiable information you provide us in connection to your use of our Web site. This policy summarizes the personally identifiable information we may collect, and how we use this information. The policy also describes other important topics, such as security, that relate to your privacy.

We will collect personally identifiable information (such as name, social security number, address, telephone number, and e-mail address) that you voluntarily provide through the Web site when you register for classes or correspond with us via email.

This information is not personally identifiable and we will not send cookies to your computer.

We may use your email address, mailing address or phone to contact you regarding account and invoicing issues, or to otherwise troubleshoot problems. We use your social security number for internal tracking purposes only. Only those individuals who need to do so as part of their job responsibilities are authorized to access your personal information.

We may keep logs of non-identifying and aggregate information (such as browser type and files requested) to aide us in creating a better user experience at our site.

On certain pages, credit card numbers are collected in order to conduct a transaction. We use Verisign Secure Server to ensure that all transactions are encrypted when being transferred from your computer to our server. Due to potential legal requirements and other possible circumstances, we cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other personally identifiable information will never be disclosed or accessed in ways not otherwise described in this policy. We may be compelled under law to disclose information to government or third parties under certain circumstances or third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications. Further, we can, and you hereby authorize us to, disclose any information to law enforcement or other government officials that we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate in compliance with the law.

If you have submitted personal information to the Web site electronically and would like it removed or modified, please contact us at webmaster@unc.dent.edu. We will use reasonable efforts to comply with your request.

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. However, we cannot guarantee that your information will not be disclosed or otherwise accessed in an unauthorized or unlawful manner.

The Web site may contain links to other sites. We do not endorse or otherwise accept responsibility for the content or privacy policies of those sites.

The UNC School of Dentistry reserves the right to modify this privacy policy at any time. We will promptly reflect any such modifications in these Web pages.
