December 2004 Agenda Packet Reminder: Reception at 8:30 a.m., Forum Portrait at 9:15 a.m.
The December HTML edition of InTouch, the Forum's newsletter, is now on-line.
The UNC Employee Forum has
worked with Dell so that Dell can offer at a special price, a desktop computer
system and/or a laptop as part of the benefits of participating in the Dell
University Program. As part of the UNC Employee Forum's commitment to help the
people of North Carolina this program is being made available to everyone in
North Carolina who is working for or has a child participating in any Higher
Educational facility in North Carolina or North Carolina high school. The basic
desktop system includes, a computer with CD-ROM and 40GB hard drive, 17"
monitor, and printer/scanner/copier combination with Microsoft Office Basic
included as part of the package for under $500 including shipping.
UNC
Employee Forum Computer Initiative
Again, thanks to Tommy Griffin and Katherine Graves (Chair and Vice Chair of
the UNC Employee Forum) for having the original idea about providing an affordable
computer and useful system for $500.00 or less for UNC employees and others
in the state. And thanks to the UNC Employee Forum's Career Development Committee
for their work. Thanks to Kelly Carter and Josh Liles at Dell for all their
hard work in putting this program together. Finally and most of all, thanks
to Ernie Patterson for his vision and persistence in seeing this project through
to its end.
The University Counsel has asked the following be included as part of the Forum's announcement.
"This program is not a part of the University's CCI Program and the laptops do not meet campus CCI requirements." The purpose of this program is intended for home use only and is not supported by University resources or personnel.
This program is a UNC Employee Forum initiative and initially a number of vendors were contacted with only one to respond with a proposal.
Forum meetings are open to the public. We meet the working first Wednesday of each month. Our next meeting will be held January 14 at 8 a.m. in an all-day retreat at the Friday Center Seminar Room.
