Australia Car Rental Frequently Asked Questions
Accidents / Road side assistance
IN CASE OF BREAKDOWN:
In case of breakdown, a phone number is provided when the vehicle is picked up by the renter. Please provide the vehicle registration number, breakdown location and the nature of the problem when calling. Breakdown assistance is available 24 hours a day.
IN CASE OF ACCIDENT:
The renter must call the police, obtain a police report and call the reservation center at (3) 9330 6160 who will arrange to transfer to the nearest location for assistance. If necessary, a replacement vehicle will be provided. Dependent on the circumstances, we reserve the right not to replace the vehicle.
Additional Drivers
Additional driver fee is 3.30 AUD per day including tax to a maximum of 7 days. A maximum of four (4) additional drivers is permitted.
Administration fee
If a reservation request is cancelled by the customer for any reason please note that the administration fee is non refundable.
Age Requirements
Minimum age is 21 and must have been a licensed driver for a period of 12 months or longer. No maximum age.
Drivers under the age of 25 will be charged 13.20 AUD per day including tax for ages 21-24 years with a maximum charge of 20 days.
Drivers under the age of 25 can only drive groups: ECMR, CCAR, ICAR.
Minimum age to rent groups: FCAR, FWAR, LCAR, PVAR, IVAR, CFMR is 25. Minimum age to rent group FFMR is 27.
Airport/Location fee
Included.
Booking deposit
PLEASE NOTE: In most instances, a booking deposit of approximately 10 - 20% is taken on confirmation of the rental. The remaining rental amount is due on arrival
Cancellation Policy
While Bauer rentals do not charge a fee for the cancellation of a reservation, the administration fee that covers the automated payment process can not be refunded.
Please note that no refunds will be given for rentals ended early. Also, local suppliers may levy a charge for 'no shows', so please inform us if you will not be collecting your vehicle.
WE WILL NOT TAKE ANY CANCELLATIONS BY TELEPHONE.
All cancellations must be made by email to help@bauer-car-rentals.com. Cancellations will only take effect from the date received in writing by Bauer Rentals.
Condition of vehicle
Vehicle must be returned, normal wear & tear expected, in the same condition as when rented. If special cleaning is required a separate charge will be made directly to the customer.
Congestion Charge
Melbourne Road Toll 8 AUD per day. Toll is payable at 22 Australian locations.
Cross border Policy
It is not permitted to leave Australia with the rental vehicle. In addition, the car cannot be taken on the ferry to Tasmania.
Deductible
Collision Damage Waiver is included in the rate. Theft Protection is included in CDW. There is a $2,500 AUD deductible on all car groups except FFMR, which would be $5,000 AUD.
Driver Licence requirements
Driver's licence must be a full licence, (from any country) and be valid for the period of the rental. Driving licence must be in English and must have been held for a minimum of three years. If the licence is not in English then an International Driving Licence is required.
Drop charges
Drop charges vary between cities and states.
Flight Information
This is mandatory at all airport locations.
Fuel Policy
Vehicle is supplied full of fuel. Please, return full or refuelling charges will apply.
Infant / Child / Booster seats
Toddler seats are available at a cost of 5 AUD per day plus tax.
Maximum charge is 35 AUD plus tax per rental.
Toddler seats are used for children 9 months - 2 years or 9 - 13 Kgs. Booster seats (for ages 2-4) are not available. Advanced reservations are required.
Toddler seats cannot be used with IVAR vehicle. Toddler seats are unsuitable for infants who are unable to sit up independently (for example: children under 6 months).
Mileage restrictions
MILEAGE RESTRICTIONS ON VEHICLE CLASSES:
Unlimited mileage in Metropolitan locations and 100 kilometers per day in Remote locations. Additional kilometers are charged 0.25 AUD per km, unless otherwise contracted by an account/product.
One Way Rentals
One-way rentals are permitted in Australia for car groups ECMR, CCMR, ICAR, FCAR only. There are no minimum rental days required.
Drop charges will apply and are confirmed at time of reservation.
One-ways must be pre-booked.
Optional Extra Insurances
MVR is available for all vehicles at a cost of 18 AUD. There is a deductible of 300 AUD except for FFMR which is 900 AUD. Theft Protection (TP) is included in MVR. If MVR is declined, the renter would be responsible for paying the sum of 2,500 AUD for all car groups, except FFMR, which would be 5,000 AUD. These sums represent the CDW deductible.
Windscreen, Headlights, and Tires coverage is available at a cost of 6 AUD for all vehicles except for group K / FFMR - 12 AUD. This insurance reduces the deductible for CDW to Zero, provided that the damage is confined to these areas.
Total Protection Plus is available for all vehicles at a cost of 20 AUD for all vehicles except for FFMR - 25.46 AUD. The deductible is 300 AUD for all vehicles except for FFMR - 900 AUD. TPP is a combination of MVR and WHT.
Other Equipment
Mobile phones are not available.
Our Rates include
Collision Damage Waiver insurance (CDW), Theft Protection insurance, Third party liability insurance, Airport fees, GST (local tax), Stamp duty.
Out of hours policy
No delivery or collection outside of locations office hours is available. Returning vehicles out of hours must be on request through reservations.
Rental counter Payment requirements
Payment by credit-card only issued in the drivers name - cash rentals are not permitted for International renters. Acceptable credit cards are: Visa, Amex, Diners, and MasterCard.
Travellers cheques are not accepted.
Third Party Liability
Third Party Liability - Third Party Cover is up to at least 1 million GBP.
VAT
10% (GST = Goods & Services Tax), subject to change.
Voucher
The voucher must be produced on arrival, otherwise booking is not guaranteed.
Young Drivers
For young drivers aged between 21 and 25 years, there is a charge of 13.20 AUD (incl tax) per day with a maximum of 20 days.
