Smog
You may be wondering how, with all of the regulations in place to
clean up the air, so many pollutants are still being created. Tough
regulations on industry, auto manufacturers and on us, through our
vehicle emissions program, are making a difference. But regulations
alone won't solve our air quality problems.
Metro Atlanta's phenomenal population growth in recent years means
that there are more and more cars and trucks on the road, which,
in our region, emit the highest percentage of nitrogen oxides, one
of the primary smog-forming pollutants.
So voluntary efforts are essential to offset population growth.
In the past decade alone, we've added almost 1 million people*
-
and most of us – over 76 percent** - continue to drive
alone. We are also driving farther to get to the places we need
to go.
By re-thinking your driving, household and work habits, you can
help improve air quality in the region. Everyone can do something,
sometimes. Even the simplest solutions can have an impact on our
quality of life and that of the entire region.
