Entrust Delivers New Capabilities to Enable Corporate and Regulatory E-Mail Compliance

Secure messaging portfolio enriched by advanced content analysis, plug-and-play policy modules and automatic policy enforcement

DALLAS – Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU], a world leader in Identity and Access management solutions, today announced the commercial availability of the Entrust Entelligence™ Compliance Server, a Linux-based appliance that helps enterprise and government customers enable real-time e-mail compliance. This highly accurate and efficient content scanner automatically enforces e-mail policy pertaining to individual privacy, intellectual property protection, anti-spam, offensive language, and regulatory mandates such as HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and Gramm-Leach Bliley. To assist customers in protecting e-mail messages identified as private or sensitive, Entrust also announced enhancements to its boundary and desktop e-mail security products.

The Entrust Entelligence Compliance Server may be installed standalone or as part of a tightly integrated secure messaging solution. Using a patented approach that combines statistical analysis and natural language processing, the server analyzes the contents of inbound and outbound e-mail messages and is uniquely able to categorize e-mail based on context and meaning.

Easily configured at the boundary and making use of plug-and-play policy modules, the server centralizes policy enforcement and alleviates the need to rely on end users for e-mail compliance. For example, brokerage communications that may improperly influence its recipients can be rejected and sent back to the trader for reconsideration – stopping a potential SEC violation before it occurs and helping the financial securities organization avoid possible penalties and public embarrassment. Or, if outbound messages are found to contain intellectual property, they can be automatically and transparently encrypted at the boundary.

“Gartner has coined the term Secure E-mail Boundary (SEB) to represent a modular grouping of e-mail security services specific to the enterprise's needs,” said Maureen Caplan Grey, Research Director at Gartner. “The SEB will normally include virus protection, spam protection, and textual-based content filtering. Increasingly, it will also include encryption. These services are managed through strong server-based policies – that are developed based on business processes.”

In addition to the Entrust Entelligence Compliance Server, Entrust’s secure messaging portfolio has been enhanced to further help customers address their e-mail compliance concerns and make it easier to secure external communications. The Entrust® Secure Messaging Solution includes the following enhancements:

  • Entrust Entelligence™ Compliance Server: This new appliance installs easily and automatically scans incoming and outgoing e-mails to enforce compliance with corporate or regulatory policies.
  • Entrust Entelligence™ Messaging Server: In order to make it easy to protect information in compliance with policy, Entrust’s secure e-mail gateway has been enhanced so that it automatically encrypts e-mail messages flagged as ‘sensitive’ by the Entrust Entelligence Compliance Server or another content scanner. It integrates seamlessly with Microsoft® Exchange® and Outlook® and Lotus Notes® environments to ease secure external communications and offers flexible secure delivery methods including S/MIME and WebMail.
  • Entrust Entelligence™ Security Provider for Microsoft® Outlook®: This new plug-in for the Microsoft Outlook client makes it easy for end users to protect private or sensitive information in compliance with policy. It integrates transparently with the Entrust Entelligence™ Messaging Server, maintaining ‘end-to-end’ encryption and digital signatures for effective risk mitigation.

Using these new capabilities can help organizations to: comply with corporate and regulatory requirements in real-time, helping to avoid potential financial penalties and brand damage associated with non-compliance; lower network costs and increase employee productivity using accurate anti-spam filtering; and limit losses through use of encryption to protect against improper disclosure of information.

Trent Henry, analyst with Burton Group, said, “We at Burton Group have heard from many organizations that are concerned about e-mail confidentiality and intellectual property protection, especially amid heightened regulatory requirements. However, IT teams express concern that they are unable to adequately enforce policy and filter unwanted content like spam and viruses when mail is encrypted. The emergence of an integrated solution that can help monitor outbound messages, watch for malicious inbound content, and provide email confidentiality is an important step toward securing the messaging infrastructure.”

Bell Canada is a recent adopter of the Entrust Entelligence Compliance Server. Due to the advanced technology capabilities of the appliance, Bell Canada is able to deliver reliable, automated e-mail scanning to help enable compliance with corporate policies. Additionally, the product fits seamlessly into Bell's existing IT infrastructure.

“As customers rely more heavily on e-mail for external communications, it becomes increasingly difficult to control the flow of sensitive information,” said Leah MacMillan, Vice President, Secure Messaging at Entrust. “By adding advanced content analysis and other enhancements to the Entrust Secure Messaging Solution, we are offering customers a cost-effective and comprehensive way to address the challenges of e-mail compliance and message protection.”

Entrust will be co-hosting a free online webinar with ZiffDavis on October 26th to discuss the aspects of e-mail compliance and automated policy enforcement. To register, please visit http://www.eseminarslive.com/article2/0,2290,1647047,00.asp?partnerref=entlv1
