It is Not Always Easy to Get Financing for Your Small Business
It can sometimes be a difficult to feet to find financing for your small business. After all, when you are seeking financing or any type, basically you are asking the financier to put their money and their faith in your small business.
There is no magic solution or secret answer to guarantee perfect financing for your small business but there are some things that you can do to make yourself look more attractive to lenders and increase your chances of getting small business financing.
Get Organized and Clean up before Seeking Small Business Financing
Even if you are not an organized small business owner, you need to appear organized to secure financing for your small business. Before meeting with any lenders get yourself organized. Make sure you business plan is complete, well written and speaks to your target market. Prepare a package to seeking financing which includes your business plan and some other supporting documentations.
Some things to consider preparing and having on hand for review during the financing seeking process include: a few past years of tax returns, a current year interim financial statement, lists of accounts receivables and payables, insurance records that show what equipment the company owns and the replacement value and a cash-flow statement for the past year.
Collect on and clean up your accounts payable and your accounts receivable before submitting this information for consideration for financing. Simply put, lending institutions do not want to loan money to a small business which has a high amount of uncollected debt.
Know your assets and what they are worth. Typically, a lending institution will want proof that your assets are worth more than the amount of the financing your small business is seeking. Your assets are your small business collateral against the loan. If you can not pay back the loan they are going to want to know what they can reasonably expect to get if they have to sell off the small business assets to recover their money.
Some Other Things to Remember When Looking for Small Business Financing
Lenders typically are going to want to see that you can not only "service the debt" (which means pay the minimum due) but that you also will have the ability to pay off on the principal. Today's lenders are looking for a bit more than just the ability to meet loan payments.
Remember that your personal credit rating will have an effect on your chances to secure small business financing. If you have a very strong personal credit rating, this can act as an asset to your small business. However, even little infractions on your personal credit rating can make it more difficult to secure small business financing. If you have recently missed some payments or have other blemishes on your personal credit rating, try to hold off awhile before seeking small business financing.
Typically a year with a clean credit rating will help the business owner to give a personal guarantee for the small business financing.
