Ever wish for a four-day workweek? With compressed workweeks, you
can commute fewer days and still meet your 40-hour workweek requirement.
Work a 4/10 work schedule (4 days a week, 10 hours per day), or ask
your employer to consider a 9/80 schedule, where you work 80 hours
over each two-week period, but only work nine of the 10 days. Keeping
more cars off the road means less congestion and reduced air pollution
for the whole region.
Many employers offer alternative or compressed workweeks. With
different office hours, your employer may be able to extend business
hours, while you save on commuting costs and can spend more time
with family and friends doing the things that matter to you. In
addition, there are other benefits like decreased childcare costs,
as well as time and money saved on commuting.
Compressed workweeks or alternative schedules are an invaluable
tool for easing the chronic pressures and conflicts imposed by attempting
to execute work and non-work responsibilities, including doctor
visits, care for children/elderly family members, volunteer and
civic involvement. With a compressed workweek you have one day every
week or every other week to handle those additional responsibilities.
