Batu Che Isa
Located close by the nearby site of Mak Chantek, Batu Che Isa is a submerged reef located east of Teluk Bakau in Redang Island. Popular for both day and night dives, you will start your dive by descending from the buoyline where you will be greeted by the sight of two huge boulders and two small ones creating a coral pass between them. The boulders and coral formations provide nooks and crannies for all sorts of smaller organisms to live in. Featherstars, tubastrea corals, sea squirts, healthy barrel sponges, and stinging hydroids compete for space and attention here.
Also known as 'Puffer Fish City', at this Pulau Redang diving site you'll find schools of huge porcupinefish and yellow bellied pufferfish. On the face of the rocks, you will notice a large number of dendronephthya corals while featherstars cling on to barrel sponges. Other smaller reef fishes fluttering around the corals are butterflyfish, longfin bannerfish and the blue-ringed angelfish.
Blue spotted rays can be seen darting over the reef under acropora tables for cover or foraging for food on the ocean seabed. Schools of horse-eyed jacks come by and inspect you curiously before swimming off into the blue open. Preying groupers hide in holes and under corals lying in wait to pounce on such tasty passers by as eels, anthias and octopus. This site is often chosen by dive operators as one of the first dives of a programme as the conditions are normally stable and it is an interesting site and one you will probably want to come back to for a night dive.
