Mission Statement
Family Division provides prompt, efficient and quality service to all customers in keeping with statutory guidelines while exhibiting the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. We look to new technology as a means to automate and continue to improve the level of service offered to our customers. We recognize the tremendous impact that our processes have on each individual's life and treat all customers courteously and with mutual respect.
We process name change, adoption, dissolution of marriage filings, as well as court orders relating to alimony/child support and payments ordered through the Palm Beach County Depository. We maintain and provide information from the docket and public records and report statistical information in compliance with the Office of the State Courts administrator, State Comptroller and Bureau of Vital Statistics.
The following is a summary of each of the sections with their respective responsibilities.
All sections must work within a time constraint to meet statutory guidelines and office standards.
Intake / Support Front Counter
This area is responsible for accepting all new filings within the Family Division, such as:
- Adoptions
- Name Changes
- Dissolution of Marriage
- Paternity Actions, etc.
This area is also responsible for accepting all subsequent filings on cases that have already been established, such as Petition for Modification, Motion for Suspension of Drivers License and Motor Vehicle Registration, Notice of Contest, Motion for Contempt, etc.
This area is responsible for assisting the public by supplying case information and answering questions that do not involve giving legal advice. Upon request, these clerks process issuances (i.e. summonses) for service.
Docketing:
This area is responsible for the maintenance of the electronic docket for the Family Division on behalf of the Clerk of the Circuit Court pursuant to Statute. This is done by sequential numbering of the pleadings that have been clocked in and filed for that case. This area also updates the Statistical Reporting System and forward pleadings or files to various places as needed. This area is also responsible for updating the system when a Final Judgment is entered. Notification is made to the appropriate agency depending on the type of final the clerk is addressing (i.e. Dissolution of Marriage, Adoption, Paternity). This area also enters Defaults upon proper motion. Conversion is also captured under this functional area and is responsible for taking the needed data taken from a Final Judgment which is made payable through the court and placing that data into the CSE system. This allows the financial information to be tracked and monitored for subsequent action pursuant to statute.Mail:
This area is responsible for the receiving and distribution of all correspondence which may be received from other agencies, Post Office, inter-departmental, judiciary, and branches etc. The mail, documents, and checks are sorted, clocked in and routed to the correct functional area for processing.Case Processing:
This area is responsible for the accuracy of the financial records pursuant to the last court order entered in the case. This area makes the financial adjustments necessary as mandated by the courts. This area also has the responsibility for implementing the enforcement process pursuant to Florida Statute which mandates the issuance of the following: Income Deduction Notice, Impending Judgments and the Suspension of Drivers License and Vehicle Registration.Judgments:
This area is responsible for monitoring and implementing the Impending Judgment process pursuant to Florida Statue which requires the Clerk to notify the obligee that a Judgment by operation of law will be entered against them if they do not bring the balance due current within the statutory time.Contempt:
This area has the responsibility of setting hearings before the Commissioner on Pro Se Motions brought before the court on non compliance issues, as well as setting hearings on Notice of Contest where the obligor is contesting either the entering of an Impending Judgment or Suspension of Driver's License.Warrant Maintenance:
This area maintains those accounts that owe monies to the Clerk due to insufficient funds. This area also maintains and facilitates the research on lost checks ( those checks which have been issued and forwarded by the Clerk to the customer that the customer has not received).Payables:
This area is responsible for the receipting of the payments that are made through the depository.File Room:
This area is responsible for the care, custody and control of the Clerk's court file. This section maintains the files and all the pleadings which are filed within the court files and provides the court files to the judiciary and public.Customer Service:
The function of this section is to deliver high-quality customer service to the public. This is done by providing timely information and resolving issues which may pertain to any of the above functional areas. Incoming calls are answered, and only those calls which need to be answered more in depth are transferred. These calls are monitored, to assure that timely service is provided.
