Essential fatty acids
Every cell in your body needs essential fatty acids to help with brain function, immune system, regulating hormones, controlling inflammation, and much more. These Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids are called essential because we must obtain them from our diet. Our bodies cannot manufacture omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. A lot of people are now adding flax to their diets, which is definitely the richest source of omega 3's. The highest sources of omega 6's are evening primrose oil and borage oil. The body has to convert these omega 3's and 6's to other fatty acids called EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). DHA is especially important in building nerve endings in the brain. DHA is required by the areas of the brain that provide us with judgement and the ability to stay focused. A good majority of the population has a very difficult time making this conversion because of many different factors. So if people are eating these healthy foods they may not be getting a sufficient supply of EPA and DHA that our brains so desperately need. The best sources of EPA and DHA are fish oils such as salmon, tuna and cod which can be incorporated into the diet by eating these kinds of fish, or through supplementation. Remember that our fish supply is becoming contaminated due to pollution in our waters so many people prefer to supplement with products such as Salmon Oil and Cod Liver Oil which do not contain such pollutants.
Minding your minerals
A good mineral supplement containing the major minerals, as well as all trace minerals, is important because our food supply may be lacking in minerals. Just look at how the coffee industry is booming in today's society. As an example, caffeine is a major antagonist in good bodily mineral supply along with stress. Minerals have a very nice calming effect on the nervous system to help us deal with stress and a nice grounding effect to help combat feelings of "spaciness". For those women who have had a problem with anaemia (lack of iron) they can relate to the tiredness and spacey feeling that comes with the lack of this mineral. Again, a good balance of all minerals is needed and sources such as Coral Calcium can give you this balance. The most important meal of the day
