Up in smoke

Ever feel like you're on death row? That's what smokers have been telling me in my Winnipeg practice lately, because it all comes to an abrupt end for them when some of the toughest anti-smoking legislation in the country comes into effect. From that day forward there will be no smoking in public places at all: restaurants, bars, malls, nowhere. Period.
 
Does this sound like a good time to quit? Possibly, but as any smoker will tell you it's not really the "when" that's as important as the "how". Quitting smoking is clearly not an easy thing to do.
 
The good news is that there are a variety of safe and effective ways to stop smoking.
 
Most of us are aware of the typical techniques: going cold turkey, taking anti-depressants such as Zyban™, using the "patch", chewing nicotine gum, sticking toothpicks between your teeth, and so on. But while such techniques may be helpful, there is another treatment that's steadily gaining attention - and success - and that's acupuncture.
