Entrust Completes Acquisition of Anti-Spam and E-Mail Compliance Products
Purchase Demonstrates Entrust Commitment to Deliver More Comprehensive Secure Messaging and Secure Data Solutions to Enterprise and Government Customers Worldwide
DALLAS – Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU], a world-leading provider of Identity and Access Management solutions, today announced that it has completed its planned purchase of the intellectual property and certain other assets of AmikaNow! Corporation, a privately-held provider of advanced anti-spam, e-mail content scanning and analysis technology.
According to the recent Radicati Group report, “Anti-Spam Market 2004-2008”, 52 percent of all e-mail in 2004 will be spam. Radicati predicts that this number will grow to 74 percent, or 142 billion spam messages, by 2008. These figures represent a tremendous strain on an organization’s network and a drain on personal productivity in the workplace, requiring the implementation of spam filtering at the e-mail boundary. With an ever-increasing reliance on e-mail as a productivity tool, there is also a need to address the more complex issues of e-mail communications compliance with corporate policies and industry regulations.
“This acquisition helps us expand the breadth of our solution portfolios to more comprehensively address our customer’s growing needs for network and productivity protection, compliance and risk management” said Bill Conner, chairman and CEO, Entrust, Inc. “E-mail is an increasingly important business communications medium that requires tightly integrated components that can be easily deployed and customized to meet an organization’s specific policies and requirements.”
The addition of the capabilities of the AmikaNow! assets will further strengthen and expand the portfolio of products within the Entrust Secure Messaging and Secure Data Solutions to provide enterprise and government customers with comprehensive content analysis and risk mitigation tools for improved compliance with corporate e-mail policies and regulatory guidelines such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and the Canadian federal government’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Entrust expects the initial integrated and rebranded product offerings resulting from this asset acquisition to be available in Q4, 2004, as key new components within its existing Secure Messaging Solution. One of the first new product offerings is expected to be the Entrust Entelligence™ Compliance Server. A preview of expected capabilities is now available.
The newly acquired technology will provide a highly sophisticated content analysis tool for the Entrust® Secure Messaging Solution that can automatically analyze and categorize e-mail messages and documents based on the context and meaning of their contents, not simply pre-defined word lists. Policies can be customized to suit the corporate environment and can be automatically enforced at the boundary to help customers reduce business risk and comply with privacy regulations and securities laws. For example, in an e-mail environment this technology can be used to intercept and forward sensitive messages to a boundary encryption server, warn employees about their use of inappropriate or offensive language, or filter spam on incoming messages.
