 BROTHERS IN ARMS.....

On Sunday 21st November Lough Derravaragh Angling Club held their end of season Christmas pike competition (catch & release). As in previous years this event drew a large turn out of anglers with somewhere in the region of 62 competitors venturing out on Lough Derravaragh, Fishing was from 10am - 3-30pm with weigh-in at Donore Shore. Right from the start you could sense  this was going to be a very competitive pike competition, Everyone  seemed to have their own "Hot Spot" and boats were scattered all across the lake. As it turned out the deeper end of the lake towards Crookedwood produced the best of the fishing, with some magnificent double figure pike being caught. The Kelly brothers Larry and Eric from Athboy Co. Meath proved two hot to handle for most other competitors, mind you Chris Gallagher and Paddy Ward gave them a run for their money. A total of twenty - five pike were weighed in at the finish. The top five rods were as follows 1st: Larry Kelly 24lbs-8oz, 2nd Chris Gallagher 18lbs-11oz, 3rd Eric Kelly 18lbs 7oz, 4th Paddy Ward 18lbs, 5th Pat Bardon 16lbs. Once again with this Christmas competition there was more prizes than fish and over thirty anglers received prizes. Lough Derravaragh Angling Club should be very proud of their achievements during their 2004 angling season. The club officers, committee and members really put a great effort into promoting angling on Lough Derravaragh. As with every sport you always have a few problems but Derravaragh Angling Club seem to be well able to weather any storm that blows up. Now just before we finish with Derravaragh A.C. after their pike competition the annual Christmas Grand Draw was held on Sunday night in Weirs Pub Multyfarnham, Angling focus would like to congratulate the winners 1st Tom Newman, 2nd Tony Corrigan,3rd Patricia Montgomery and 4th Tony McGreevy.
