By The Guide Awards 2002 Bulletin

Hue and its famous imperial city are one of Vietnam’s most popular attractions, and in Hue the Huong Giang Hotel has long proved an attraction in itself.

One of the city’s oldest hotels, the Huong Giang is gracefully situated on the bank of the Perfume River in the heart of Hue. Waking in the morning, one can look out of the hotel windows to see the river shrouded in mist, while in the evening the setting sun turns the river a distinctive purple, a hue peculiar to Hue. Just 20 minutes drive from Phu Bai airport or five minutes from the railway station, the hotel is set in tropical gardens, in bloom year round, soothingly cool in summer, and pleasantly warm in winter.

Designed to echo ancient imperial courts, the four-star hotel offers 135 rooms, all equipped to international standards with full modern comforts and services. Guest rooms and suites are furnished in traditional Vietnamese and Royal Court style, with full amenities including writing desk, satellite television, IDD telephone with bathroom extension, mini-bar, air-conditioning, hair-dryer and 24-hour room service.
The hotel’s Royal Restaurant specializes in traditional dishes of the old Hue citadel and can accommodate up to 500 guests in true imperial style. The Hoa Mai Restaurant, with seating for 300 guests, serves Vietnamese, Asian and European cuisine, as well as regional specialties. In addition to these renowned restaurants, the hotel’s Rooftop Bar offers Vietnamese, French and Chinese cuisine with panoramic views of Hue City and the Huong River. The Basement Bar serves a wide range of snacks and beverages right in the banks of the river itself. The hotel also features regular performances of the royal daces of the old court.

In association with the Huong Giang Tourist Company, one of Hue’s longest established tour operators, the hotel also supplies a wide variety of tourist activities including tours specializing in sightseeing, architecture, and sites of historical and natural interest. Visits to local communities and areas of interest to explore local community life, festivals and the arts are also available, as eco- and sports-tourism activities and visits to local hot-springs renowned for their health-giving properties.
The hotel is ideally placed just a stone’s throw the forbidden city and within easy reach of regional attractions such as the World Heritage listed ancient town of Hoi An and My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam province. Hue also provides an ideal base to explore the minority cultures of the central highlands as well as the old battle-fields and war relics north of the city, including the DMZ and Vinh Moc tunnel, and the homeland of Vietnam’s great leader President Ho Chi Minh.
