PROGRAMMING FUNDAMENTALS
This module covers the entire range computer programming to prepare the student for a career in this industry. The focus will be more on the fundamental principles of what a program is, and what we hope to achieve in writing them, as opposed to the actual languages being used. Languages, tools, and platforms will continue to evolve over time, and a person choosing any portion of the computer industry as a career must commit themselves to a process of life long learning of these things. This course gives the students the understanding of the things that do not change. What a program tries to achieve and what kind of structures need to be created to succeed. These to not change as technology evolves.

SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
Without question, the single most import part of being a computer programmer is determining just what it is that you want to create. Writing a computer program is every bit aS complicated as the construction of a large office complex. Including all the structure, electrical, heating, plumbing, etc, etc … If you try to accomplish such a project without first understanding what needs to be built, and you begin construction without first drawing a blueprint, you have absolutely no hope of completing the project. This module takes the student through the step-by-step process of identifying what the user wants the system to do, and then breaking that requirement up into a number of manageable tasks. The most import work of any computer programmer is done before a single line of code is written.

APPLICATION DESIGN
Just like the design of our office complex, there must be a construction plan. You have to build foundations before you can start putting up walls. A computer program requires the same kind of planning in order to succeed. Students will be taught the process of taking the components of a Systems Analysis and transforming them into the program modules that will be combined to create the finished application. Concepts of modular coding, and developing libraries of reusable code are covered to give students the understanding of how a functioning software business operates.

Concepts of database normalization, data structures, performance tuning and maintenance will all be covered. Students will gain the knowledge of how do design efficient databases and integrate them with applications that utilize them.

LANGUAGE IMPLEMENTATION

Specifically the students will gain a working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and HTML. Students will be given the basic principals of Object Oriented Programming, which is the fundamental concept of all modern languages.

NTEIR DEVELOPMENT
Today’s computer industry is a multi-tiered environment. The various layers are evolving into separate rolls as follows;

The presentation Tier
– Often called the ‘front end’ or the ‘client’. This is what the user actually sees and interacts with. Today it is mainly web browsers, but with the increasing use of palm pilots and cell phones for Internet access, programmers will need to know how to present their applications on a variety of devices.
The Communication Tier – Handles all the traffic between the client and the application. Dealing with such things as data inscription, data compression, and the first wall of security for a system.
The Business Logic Tier – This is where most of the programming for a traditional application resides. Handles all of the tasks that the program is to accomplish, and the rules that it must follow to do so. Much of a system’s security is enforced here.
The Database Connection Tier – Handles the connection between the application and the database. Many systems might actually be using several different types of databases located in different geographical areas. This tier handles this task and presents the application with a single data source. Most database access and security issues are dealt with here.
The Database Tier –This is the database (or databases). Final layer of security against the data itself. The repository of all the information that the application uses.

Just what the different tiers are, and what they each do, will differ among various experts you talk to. This is a very fast growing area of the industry. What we will present in this course is the methodology used to decide what tiers you will need to use, and how to implement the.
