About the Visa Office
The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security work together to
create and maintain an effective, efficient visa process that secures America’s
borders from external threats yet ensures that our country remains open to
legitimate travel. Such travel is important to our international, economic and
national values and interests and we welcome these visitors to the U.S.
Working closely with the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of
Visa Services in the Consular Affairs Bureau, Department of State, oversees the
processing of immigrant (IV) and nonimmigrant (NIV) visas to the U.S., by
consular officers as governed by the Immigration and Nationality Act, as
amended.
