The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs manages a variety
of academic exchange programs for Eurasia and Central and Eastern
Europe. These programs provide various opportunities for study and
research at the undergraduate through post-doctoral levels. The
programs are authorized by the Fulbright-Hays Act passed by the
U.S. Congress.

More
than 60 Muskie Fellowship alumni met with the
President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, on
October 11th, at the re-entry seminar in Tbilisi
at the State Chancellery of Georgia. President
Mikhail Saakashvili, himself a Muskie alumnus
(1992-1993, Columbia University, Law), welcomed
the newly returned alumni to his office and discussed
the current political, economic and development
issues of Georgia. An engaging dialogue and constructive
debate followed his opening speech. The president
took great interest in the opinions of Muskie
alumni on critical political and economic reforms,
and on developments in Georgia.
