If you have to pick a prime tourist season it would have to be when Portland is at its driest - June to August. Some of the main attractions in Portland are the Hawthorne District - the most modern area, buzzing with activity and the hang out place for most of Portland's youth. The old town has a strong feel the city's beginnings. The Pearl District has a high concentration of art galleries, and there is also a large focus on art and artifacts here. Also worth checking out are the Portland Building & Portlandia, Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Columbia River Gorge, the East Side which has lots of parks and gardens, the International Rose Test Garden, the Kennedy School and Mt Hood.
Around Portland, there many places for windsurfing and you can go hiking at Mt Hood, which is the highest peak in the state and is also a great favorite for skiing, tubing and snowboarding. There is also cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing, freshwater fishing and mountain biking for those of you who are the outdoor types.
