Can You Find a Decent Credit Card Reward Program

You're kidding right.... there must be hundreds of credit card with reward programs out there. There're all kinds of reward programs, and there's just gotta be one you can latch onto. That is if you can afford yet another credit card - but that's another issue altogether. Hey, maybe you could trade in one of your existing cards for a new one that has a great reward program tied to it. That's the ticket. You know, you might even find it beneficial to have several rewards credit cards, each with a different reward program... that way you could get the best of many worlds.

As you can tell from the avalanche of mail you've received telling you all about this newest card's great rewards, or that fact that you can't live without that other card for one second longer, or that our card is the only one that can fly you to the moon, the only real thing that differentiates one card from another these days is the rewards you get for using them.

What Kinds of Credit Card Reward Programs are There

The bewildering variety of reward programs is apparently limited only by their creators imaginations.

For example, there are at least two type of cash back programs: those that offer a flat percentage back on every purchase, and those with tiered cash-back rewards, where the more you spend the greater the percentage you get back.

There are points and miles programs where you earn airline points or miles toward the purchase of airline tickets or some other kind of travel - say cruise ships, or the train, or the bus even....

There are credit card rewards programs that sock away a percentage of your purchases towards the purchase of an automobile, like the GM card.

There are credit cards that give you cash back on gasoline purchases like the Citi Shell Mastercard.

And some credit cards reward programs are tied to you signing up for the credit card to begin with; for example, the reward might be no annual fee, or no APR for a (short) period of time, or even a free vacation.

How Do I Find the "Best" Credit Card Reward Program

So how do you find the best program? Well, as with most things these days, your first choice should be a cruise through the wired world of the Internet. You might also consider calling credit card issuing companies directly and simply asking them what they have to offer.

But when shopping around for the best deal be wary of the "you've earned it", "you deserve it", "get what you deserve now, why wait" come-ons. If you're wise - and we know that your are - you'll be able to get loads of advantages and benefits from using reward cards, but make sure that you don't use these cards for everything, since - just like traditional cards - they can put you deep into debt real fast if you're spending beyond your ability to pay.
