It is important to have a well-thought out Plan prior to this major change in your life.
A good Plan in place can eliminate some of the stress and make for a more successful real estate transaction.
Prepare a selling and/or buying checklist and refer to this List often.
Refer to the examples of check lists below. Please note that choosing a Real Estate Agent is one of the first steps you should take in when you decide to sell and/or buy. A qualified Realtor can be a valuable source of information and can be helpful to you during the decision process.
Examples
When Buying....
- Decide on a State and/or an area within a State.
- Pre-Qualify with a Bank or Lender. Check with the Real Estate Agent you choose to work with regard to the local lending practices within the area
- Choose a Real Estate Agent. It is best to work with one Real Estate Agent instead of calling many agencies.
- Features you need in a home. For example, square footage, style of home, rural or in-town, etc.

When Selling...
- Find a Real Estate Agent. Interview a few Real Estate Agents to determine the one you are most comfortable selling your home.
- Determine a selling price. Consider your Real Estate Agent’s advice in deciding the selling price of your home.
- Get your home ready to sell. Discuss what you need to do to make your home/property more appealing to buyers.

Determine what items you can “live without” and have a Garage Sale or give to your local charitable organizations.
