To assist certified boat and yacht manufacturers in using equipment that meets the applicable American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards and the U.S. Coast Guard regulations, NMMA requires test reports from component manufacturers. These components are required to pass all applicable tests performed at qualified independent laboratories, or in-house testing facilities. These test reports documenting these results are required by NMMA and are kept on file.
The approved product listing of navigational lights, fuel tanks, fuel hoses, bilge pumps, bilge blowers, steering helms, steering wheels, and horns is then published for the mandatory use of all certified boat companies when specifiying equipment in each of their models. Boat trailer manufacturers have recently been required to attain NMMA Certification to be a supplier to any NMMA Certified Boat and Yacht manufacturer.
Boat trailer and component manufacturers are also required to comply with industry requirements for Type Accepted compliance. Trailer components include couplings, safety chains, lights, wiring harnesses, winch line, and brake hoses.
These lists are updated frequently and are available to all NMMA member manufacturers.
