What is Needed to Apply for a Credit Card?
So, you want to apply for a credit card? Here is an overview of what you'll need to know before you apply for a new credit card.
Credit card companies will ask for some of the following items when you apply: Address, date of birth, social security number (if applicable), sex, employment, length of time at your present address, and bank account numbers. Most credit card companies will reference your credit report, so it is important to know what is on your credit report when applying.
Where Can I Find a Credit Card to Apply For?
While sometimes you will receive credit card applications through the mail, the best source is online. There are thousands of websites where you can apply for different types of credit cards. Don't jump at the first offer. Explore several sites, fill out the online applications and you will be on your way to securing your credit card.
What Kinds of Credit Cards Can I Apply For?
There are three kinds of credit cards you will find online that you can apply for. The first is an unsecured card. This is the standard credit card that you can take anywhere and use. These cards will have an interest rate and a minimum monthly payment. Some will have an annual fee that will automatically be charged to your card on a monthly or yearly basis. These cards do not require you to pay any money up front, and once accepted, you can begin to use your credit card the moment you receive it. If your credit is good you should be able to find a credit card with no annual fee.
The second type is a secured credit card. These are cards that require you to pay the amount of your credit limit up front. For a credit card with a $500.00 limit, you would be required to pay $500.00 before you can use your credit card. While this may seem like a bad deal, it can also be beneficial to you. If for some reason you cannot make a payment, the amount you have paid on the credit card before using it will be used to cover your payment. These types of cards are generally given to those who are a credit risk, or those who have a poor credit history.
The third type is a credit card that can be used to shop at an online store owned by the same company issuing the credit card. This type of card cannot be used at your local gasoline station, instead you can purchase products from a large selection online. While this reduces your flexibility, it does allow you to shop online.
Determine what is best for you and follow these tips and you will be on your way to getting your credit card!
