World Learning for International Development
For more than 70 years, World Learning and its partners
around the globe have helped people transform their lives and create future
opportunities. World Learning for International Development's (WLID) programs
in education, civil society and social change, and training and exchange
are designed to develop the skills of individuals and strengthen the capacities
of local organizations as effective advocates and agents of progress and
social change.
Using the full resources of World Learning -- which
include a fully accredited post-graduate academic institution, a renowned
cultural exchange program and a respected intercultural business training
organization -- World Learning for International Development
advances both the theory and practice of social and economic development
at the individual, community and institutional levels. WLID's community-based
approach is the foundation of enduring change. Our programs are based
on local partnerships with people who have an active and respected role
in addressing their own development challenges.
Our major focus areas include:
Funding
WLID has managed more than $650 million in programs
funded by United States government agencies, including the U.S. Agency
for International Development (USAID) and the Department of State; multilateral
organizations, including United Nations agencies and the World Bank; private
foundations and corporations; and foreign aid agencies of other governments.
WLID's activities reach people and communities throughout
the world. WLID has implemented development projects in more than 50 countries
in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Our training and exchange
programs reach individuals and groups from more than 130 countries in
both the developed and developing world. Headquartered in Washington,
D.C., with local offices in more than 20 countries, WLID's team includes
more than 450 professionals worldwide.
