Australia's fantastic weather brings people outside, creating a vibrant atmosphere around the city. Sydney's trademark attraction is the Opera House, which besides its unique architectural design is home to world-class opera, theatre and music performances. Sunshine means sunbathing and Australia's beaches are infamous. In Sydney you'll find the perhaps the most talked about in the world, Bondi Beach. Cairns If you head north to Queensland you will reach Cairns. Becoming increasingly popular, Cairns is an excellent base for exploring the Great Barrier Reef. A diving and snorkelling paradise, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world, stretching nearly the entire length of Queensland. This entire region itself is ideal for exploring, as it also contains romantic islands, tropical rainforest and thousands of plant and animal species, many of which are only found in Australia. Melbourne If you head south from Sydney to Victoria, Melbourne is a great starting point. Though Melbourne is quieter than Sydney it is still full of many great restaurants, shops, sporting events and festivals like the comedy festival held in April, but with so much to do it would be easy to miss one of Victoria's best attractions - The Great Ocean Road. Be sure to reserve a few days and head out of Melbourne to the popular surfing town of Torquay which is the staring point of one of Australia's most scenic drives. The Great Ocean Road hugs the coastline for 300 kilometers taking you past enchanting beaches, magnificent cliffs, lush rainforests and charming towns. Sports Australians love their sports, which probably explains why so many well-known sporting events are held there. Formula one goes to Melbourne each year for the Melbourne Grand Prix, Melbourne also plays host to the Australian Tennis Open and even amateur horse racing fans will be watching the Melbourne cup. Besides these events you will find Rugby, Yachting, and Australian Rules football throughout the country. Ayers Rock Ayers Rock, one of the world's most recognizable natural wonders sits in the heart of Australia. More than 3.5 kilometres long Ayers Rock is famous for its red colour that changes depending on how the light is hitting it. The rock is of great historical significance to the native Aboriginal people making a visit a unique opportunity to learn about this native culture.
