SPAM STOPPER 3 ENHANCEMENT
11/24/2003 - Blacklists and Whitelists Introduced

Dear Valued Subscriber,

Response to the new SPAM Stopper3 service has been absolutely amazing. Thank you for all the kind words. If you are using SPAM Stopper3, and most of you are as it has been enabled for you by default, please read through this message, as it contains important information and helpful tips on how to use the service best.

First, the default action taken by SPAM Stopper3 has been changed from delete message to quarantine message. This means that all messages we detect to be SPAM will be placed in your quarantine. The quarantine is a holding bin where you can review and recover messages as necessary. The quarantine is accessible through Mercury Messenger at http://webmail.mercury.net. After logging in, click the Quarantine option at the top of the screen. Quarantined messages are held for 10 days. After 10 days, messages are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

An option that works hand-in-hand with the quarantine is the reporting feature. When you enable quarantine reports, you will receive e-mails that list all messages sent to your Quarantine. These e-mails provide links that allow you to release messages with a single click. If you enjoy the freedom from junk mail that SPAM Stopper3 provides, but still want to double-check the messages that were caught - just in case - the Quarantine Report feature is the perfect way.

Last, new Blacklist and Whitelist functionality has been introduced. Blacklisting allows you to specify e-mail addresses that you never want to receive mail from - messages from blacklisted addresses will always be considered SPAM. Whitelists work the opposite. When you whitelist addresses, we will never identify messages from those addresses as SPAM. If SPAM Stopper3 has been incorrectly identifying messages from certain addresses as SPAM, enter their e-mail addresses into the whitelist. Then
you can be sure that all of their messages will reach you. Blacklist and Whitelist functionality is accessible by choosing the Settings option at the top of Mercury Messenger. Blacklist and Whitelist functionality will be added to the Account Manager and MyMercury.Net profile sections in the near future. For now, it is accessible exclusively through Mercury Messenger.

If you have questions about how to use SPAM Stopper3, please e-mail us at support@mercury.net or call us, toll-free, at 888-866-4638.

Best Wishes,
