A home based business seems to be the solution to many people these days. Whether you are new parents who want to spend more time with their children, a self-employed consultant, just retired and looking for extra income with flexible time, a home based business may be the solution for you. Before you embark into the search of the perfect home based business solution, take some time to sit-down and analyze some of the pro's.

Be Your own Boss and Run a Home Based Business

One of the major attractions of a home based business is that people want to be their own boss. Work when you feel like it does not mean not work at all. It often means that you can select your work schedule. A good example is an independent car repair shop next to me who opens his workshop early afternoons and stays open until midnight every day. The owner likes working late, which also works out well for his customers who can easily bring and pick up their cars after work.

This is the complete opposite of many car workshops who tend to open early in the morning and close by 4pm, and therefore this guy attracts a customer base who identifies with his work schedule. Not everyone likes to bring their car for service at 7am!

Many young parents find it difficult to go back to a full-time job leaving their newly-born behind at the day-care center, and decide to opt for the alternative of a home based business. From the young age until school age, one of the parents stays at home and can combine the two activities without adding the extra stress of a daily commute.

Setting up your home based business will allow you to spend more time at work rather than spending it in traffic, or chatting with work colleagues by the water-cooler. More time at work may also mean more efficiency, which translates into either shorter working hours, or more revenue. No matter which one you decide on, the important point is that you have flexibility.

Say in eight hours of work in the office you can write 10 business proposals. When working from home, you may end up writing 15 proposals in eight hours, which is a good source of extra income. Alternatively you may decide that 10 proposals is what you need financially speaking, which allows you to get the job done in maybe six hours instead of eight.

Depending on the business you are in, you may also decide on your own level of comfort at home. Some say that they work best in their pajamas, some other home-based employees/entrepreneurs prefer to get dressed and get the day started and simulate a 'day at the office' to be productive. Whichever works best for you does not matter, the key point is that you have the choice!
