Most Americans Believe That Small Business Has a Positive Impact on the Country
In a recent survey conducted by The National Federation of Independent Business. Small Business took the number two spot for having the most positive influence on the country as a whole. Taking the number one spot was Science and Technology and number 3 was held by Schools and Universities. What wonderful company for Small Business to keep!
The number one spot was held by Science and Technology with 86% of respondents saying they had a favorable impact. Number two was held by Small Business with an impressive 78%, following by a close third place being held by Schools and Universities with 76%. Others Business included in survey, listed in descending order, included: religious organizations with 66%; labor unions taking 40%; big business and the federal government both coming in with 38%; and, last on the list was television and movies, with a positive rating of only 22%.
Why is Small Business Ranked So High in the Polls?
Unfortunately, the survey didn't ask the respondents WHY they held small business in such high regard. However, pollsters believe that this is because so many Americans are in such close proximity to a small business.
Although Small Business Owners are only 5/5% of the population, 32.6% of the population is either friends or employees of a Small Business Owner. Another 20.9% are former small business owners. 8/7% are investors in small business. And add to that another 16.9% who were "almost small business owners" meaning they have or once had a part time small business or came close to small business ownership at some time in their life.
In this same study, 15.4% reported themselves as having had no exposure to small business. The results found that those without any exposure to small business were less likely to give small business high rankings.
So What Does All of This Mean for Small Business?
If the public is behind you, of course this means a much higher success rate for small business!
The respondents to the survey mentioned above, ranked small business SECOND only to Science and Technology! Wow! That is saying something.
That means when they need goods and or services they would prefer to go to a small business. They believe in you and feel that you are good for America so they want to support you.
Public support means more customers. More customers means more sales, contracts, or whatever your small business is providing. More sales and contracts means more capital and more capital means more success.
When America is in an economical cycle where small business if meeting with success, we see a spurt in the growth of new, small start up business. Less small business closing their doors and more small business growing, expanding, hiring, providing competition to keep larger business's prices in check and generally helping the American Economy.
Small business is definitely here to stay!
