The Clerk's Office is looking for ambitious, dedicated people, interested in working for a public service oriented office. Many positions involve direct contact with the public either in person or by telephone. There are computerized systems throughout the departments so data entry and word processing are an important part of the operations. What types of positions are under the Clerk's employment?
The majority of the 700+ positions at the Clerk's office are office/clerical in nature such as; cashier, photocopy operations, couriers, mail clerks, front counter and courtroom clerks. The organization also offers a variety of professional-level positions in the areas of management, supervisory and accounting/auditing/automation. Because of the size of the Clerk's office, there is a continued need for qualified applicants.

What departments are under the Clerk?
There are six divisions in the Clerk's Office: Administration, Automation Services, Court Services, Finance, Human Resources and Legal Records.

What are the work hours in the Clerk's Office?
The Clerk's Office is open from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.. Non-exempt Clerk's employees work a 40 hour work week. Some positions have flexible hours and overtime. Exempt employees work a 40 hour work week. Exempt positions are "exempt from overtime" and employees in these positions are expected to work the hours necessary for successful completion of work obligations.

Some departments may offer a four-day work week.

How and where do I apply for employment with the Clerk's Office?
The Clerk's Office has a centralized application process. Applications are accepted for posted positions only. For clerical positions, all applicants must complete an Employment Application in the Human Resources Department at 301 North Olive Avenue, Room 902, West Palm Beach. Clerical testing is conducted every Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, beginning at 8:00 A. M. or 9:30 A.M or 1:00 P.M. All clerical applicants must be tested and meet the minimum requirements in order to be considered for a particular position.

  1. All applicants that successfully complete all portions of the pre-employment process are eligible for consideration for up to three months.
  2. For professional positions, applicants may submit their resume via fax to 561-355-3815 or email to clerkjobs@co.palm-beach.fl.us. When professional applicants meet the minimum requirements, they are then contacted for an interview by the Employment Specialist.

Where do I find job advertisements for the Clerk's Office?
Positions are advertised in local newspapers (Palm Beach Post, and, at times, in the Sun Sentinel). Additionally, some positions are posted in specialized journals and on various web sites.

How long will I have to wait for an interview?
The waiting time for an interview varies. Clerical tests are instantly scored by the computer. If the score meets the minimum requirements, the applicant will have a pre-screening interview.
What type of salary can I expect to receive?
Salaries are established in accordance with the requirements of each position classification. There is a minimum and maximum salary within each pay classification to allow for upward mobility. Regularly scheduled Performance Appraisals are conducted and employees are eligible for pay for performance consideration following the completion of a 90 day introductory period and every six months thereafter.

Salaries throughout the Clerk's Office are highly-competitive with private industry and other local governmental entities.

Does the Clerk's Office offer a Student Internship Program?
The Clerk believes in providing opportunities to students in the local community and has initiated a Student Intern Program for local high school and college students.

Recruitment efforts begin several months prior to the end of the school year and student intern positions are posted. Students must be at least 16 years old and meet certain standards in addition to taking part in the usual pre-screening process in order to be considered for employment. The goal of the program is to introduce students to the workplace and to share career building skills for the future.

The Clerk values the skills of our diverse community and has implemented a Volunteer Program. Volunteers are placed in many different departments and provide a valuable service to our organization and the public.
