Vicinity of Soroako

Some of the TOP Hotels in Bali

Bali's most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation, shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged every night of the week and the streets are full of arts-and-crafts galleries.

In this part of Celebes are found 2 magnificent and very deep lakes, Matana and Towuti. Lake Towuti is 48 km wide and the largest lake of Celebes, comparable in size to Lake Geneva. Mighty beautiful. Lake Matana has burial caves. Besides the bus from Malili to Wawondula and then on to Timampu (on the shore of Danau Towuti), Inco Mining Co. has the only vehicles to the lakes. Enquire about the possibility of a launch on D. Towuti. There are recreational speedboats for Inco Co. staff on D. Matana which is excellent for swimming, water skiing, or sailing. Or you could get boats to Matana village at the head of the lake and to Nuha village across the lake. isolated societies in Central Celebes: The Tolare people are found in Watubula, Dolo subdistrict, Donggala District, also in Lobu, Parigi subdistrict, numbering about 5000 in all. The Wana (approx. 6000) live in Ulu Bongka subdistrict, Poso District. The 500 Kahumamahoen are in Sinarang, Batui subdistrict, Luwuk Banggai District. The only native batik technique outside of Java and Madura is found in Central Celebes, a very ancient onecolored batik in which starch is used instead of wax. Wotu: At present Inco is building a road from Malili to Wotu. Though there are no commercial vehicles doing this route yet, it is a proposition now for 4-wheel drive vehicles or motorcycles. Or walk it in 2 days, crossing several rivers by sampan; they ask Rp1000 but just give them Rp50. Sleep in the open in the middle of the jungle. There's a horrible hotel in Wotu, Rp500; kids stand under your rooms and look in peepholes. from Wotu: To Palopo by bus, Rp750. From Sabang, Rp300 by taxi from Wotu, do the short walk to Lembong on the road to Seko. An up and down trek, 3 days up, 3 days back, which means 6 days of eating only brown rice. Lake Poso, 80 km to the north, is reachable by a 3 day walk from Wotu. Take a boat across Lake Poso to Tentena, then a minibus Rp750 from Tentena, or walk 2 more days and 2 nights to Poso, then take a boat on to Gorontalo or Manado.
