The Shady Maids of Haiti

The Shady Maids of Haiti is a new play written and directed by John Jahnke. It is set during Haiti's slave revolution of 1804. (Haiti was the first island to free its slave populace and destroy white European rule through a series of violent sieges.) The Shady Maids of Haiti traces four desperate characters  involved in an elliptical game of control in a quest to possess a highly desirable piece of property. The work is inspired by the island's mythology, as well as the symbolist writings of Rachilde.

Jahnke's previous works include Mercurius and Lola Montez in Bavaria.
