The Dark Kalamazoo

The Dark Kalamazoo is a solo show written and performed by Oni Faida Lampley. This synopsis is from the press materials:

"The Dark Kalamazoo is a one-woman adventure as Oni (raised in Oklahoma City and educated in all-white schools) eagerly makes her first trip abroad at the age of 19 to 'The Motherland', Africa. 'When they heard  a black American was coming, they expected Diana Ross... but they got me.' What she expects, and what she actually finds, fills her with wonder, romance, heartache, and danger, as well as new ideas about what it means to be an SBW--a Strong Black Woman."

Lampley is probably best-known for her recent performance in Arthur Miller's The Ride Down Mount Morgan. As a playwright, she is the author of Mixed Babies. The Dark Kalamazoo has been performed in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.
