Beaches in Trang
Chao Mai Beach: Chao Mai Beach is included within the area of Hat Chao Mai National Park. It is the most attractive and popular main land beach near Trang's city, 50 kilometers away from town. It lies on the stretched- 5 kilometer- long beach with its powdery sand and clear water reflecting the blue sky above. Rows of swaying casuarinas trees lining at the back of the beach give shades for relaxation while the elliptical bay facing the beach provides uninterrupted views across to Ko Libong, the idyllic island. At the base of principal mountain is a 30-meter cavern, Chao Mai Cave where houses the wondrous stalactites which form a seeming theatre; a high overhead wall stretches out like a roof over the "stage", and at the sides there are layers which look like a curtain.
Apart from easy accessibility to the beach, Chao Mai Beach can be also visited all year round even in the monsoon period as the beach is protected from the storm by the enormous limestone mountains. Pakmeng Beach: Pakmeng is the closest beach, only 38 kilometers from town. The beach is outstanding for its mountain in the middle of which the shape resembles to a reclining man. The beach itself is composed of off-white sand and shards of coral, and the shallow bay is paved with sharp shells, making it not a good place for strolling or swimming. The mediocre sand is compensated for, however, by the remarkably wonderful panorama over a sapphire sea punctuated by towering limestone mountains. Each year, in early November, residents from Trang come to the beach to collect sweet-fleshed hoy tapao, a kind of delicious oyster during the Collecting Festival.
Chang Lang Beach: This long deserted stretch of sands is the seat of Hat Chao Mai National Park Headquarters. The beach is dominated by a limestone cliff riddled with small caves, and the bay is lined by the casuarinas, allowing it a good location for camping. Campsites are also plentiful here. From here, there are long-tail boats transferring to Koh Muk. Yonglin Beach to Short Beach: The curved beach parallels the pine forest. At the end of the beach stands a high mountain with caves that are interconnected to each other, providing a shelter for camping. You can also find the strange appearance of trees here. The beach is ideal for swimming and secluded relaxation due to its tranquil atmosphere.
