River Kwai Tours |
Cycle Tour Kanchanaburi
|
Starting in Bangkok, we first visit the
sites of Kanchanaburi Town before starting our ride at Prasat
Muang Sing, a Khmer temple that dates back to the Angkorian period
of the 12th Century. We then enjoy an afternoon riding through stunning
countryside, small Thai villages and teak plantations to the very
beautiful Cliff View Resort, nestling on the banks of the River
Kwai. We spend a day riding great jungle trails and red laterite roads
to our hotel by the Kwai Noi river. The final day we ride through jungle
to the river where we cross and visit Hellfire Pass before taking
a ride on Death Railway before returning to Bangkok.
This tour follows a wide range of trails, including quiet back roads, red laterite jeep trails with some off-road jungle trails. The first part of the tour is relatively undemanding and requires no technical ability. The riding gradually becomes more challenging and on the final day there are some off-road descents. We ride as a group, with experienced cycle guides setting an even pace and stop often to visit points of interest and sample some of the local food. Our support vehicle follows close behind with plenty of water. Our guides are knowledgeable on the local area and customs and explain the history, culture and local way-of-life each time we stop. This trip is suitable for most levels of riders and is an excellent trip for families. |
