Corofin is located to the southwest of the region in Co Clare, is 11 kms
from Ennis and approx 27 kms from Shannon Airport. Both Corofin and Ennis are the
coarse angling centres for the River Fergus Catchment which includes the River
Fergus and about 12 lakes.
WHERE TO FISH
This guide covers the River Fergus and many lakes as set out in the fisheries
guides below. This is a relatively new coarse angling area and boasts the Irish
record Tench. These rich
limestone waters have the capacity to produce good quality Pike
fishing also. Some of the fisheries are easily accessible with
fairly good facilities while some are poor and only accessible by
boat. Boat hire is readily available through local service
providers. Development and maintenance work is carried out on an ongoing basis
by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board to improve access and facilities in a number of
locations in the catchment .
In recent years two lakes - Ballycullinan Lake and
Ballyeighter Lake produced several specimen Bream and Tench respectively which
were verified by the Irish Specimen Fish Committee. Of course other fisheries
produce specimen size coarse fish also which never get news coverage or
are officially verified.
