When You Sign a Credit Card Receipt Does the Teller Make Sure It is Really Your Name You Have Signed?
When you use a credit card to purchase good or services, you will be given a receipt to sign. Have you noticed that the tellers just stick the receipt in to their drawers and go on with business. They do not even look at your signature. Any one could sign that credit card receipt in your name. This is why your card can be stolen and used. The signature means nothing, for no one even looks at it.
What If I Signed My Name As Mickey Mouse on My Credit Card Receipt?
What would happen if I went in to a store and used my credit card for a purchase, then signed my receipt as Mickey Mouse instead of my real name? Let me tell you, nothing. The cashier will not even notice. The cashiers are not made to look at the receipt and confirm your signature. So if you would like you could sign your credit card receipt as Michael Jackson or Kid Rock if you would like to.
When the charge for the credit card is processed the credit card company will not see the receipt either, so it really does not matter. If you happen upon a cashier that does look at your receipt, so what, if the credit card is really yours then nothing can be done for the way you decided to sign the receipt.
Let's Draw a Picture on Your Credit Card Receipt As a Signature
If you like to draw, you could draw a very quick picture in the signature part of your credit card receipt. This may get some ones attention, but I doubt it. Go ahead and try these things, nothing is stopping you. It is actually pretty funny to realize all the credit card receipts you can sign with any thing but your real name and just how many people do not notice. I have seen people sign their credit card receipts with a simply line or and X. No one even cares enough to look.
What Does This Mean for the Repeated Offenses of Credit Card Fraud?
The continuing fraud of credit cards is not going to be stopped by receipt signatures if the signatures are not verified. Verifying the signature is as simple as looking at your drivers licence. If some one get a hold of your credit card and uses that card before you have been able to report the card stolen or lost, then yes they can very easily use your credit card and sign your credit card receipt.
With this information may be you should really pay full attention to where you credit card is at all times. With the facts here and now, we are pretty much screwed if some one decides to commit credit card fraud to you. I can sign my receipt and my ten year old daughter can sign my receipt. What is wrong with this picture?
