Roaming Server

Entrust Authority™ Roaming Server allows users to log in and have secure access to sensitive information—from any location—without having to carry the digital IDs necessary to establish a secure connection. It also provides the flexibility to tailor security roles to match the needs of corporations and end users.

Adding mobility to the enhanced security capabilities of Entrust Authority™, the Roaming Server makes it possible for an organization to provide secure access to corporate resources from any workstation or kiosk connected to that information.

User Mobility - Normally a user's digital ID is stored on his or her hard drive. However, by incorporating the Roaming Server into your Entrust Authority infrastructure, digital IDs can be stored securely on a centralized server to provide users with the flexibility to work from the location of their choice. Centralized storage of digital IDs enables employees to have secure access to applications from any workstation within the organization.

The Roaming Server enables you to specify login access for groups or individuals as coming from the desktop, roaming, or both. For example, these distinctions can allow the sales organization to be roaming-only users, the shipping department to be desktop-only users, and the R&D; group to switch between desktop and roaming. By using the Roaming Server, a company has the ability to tailor the security to meet both the needs of the enterprise as a whole and the specific security requirements of departments within that enterprise. Also, roaming can be configured to support multi-tiered directory implementations meaning a variety of network architectures are possible.

Easy to Use - The Roaming Server used in conjunction with the Security Manager allows users to choose international usernames and therefore are not limited to non-accented English choices. In addition, the Roaming Server provides an offline mode of operation, allowing users continued access to their applications during periods of network disruption.

Enhanced Security - The digital IDs of roaming users are protected with 128-bit encryption and stored on a secure centralized server. This means that users no longer have to carry their Entrust identities with them or worry that their digital IDs may be tampered with or stolen. Users retain all the benefits of enhanced security management, including automatic and transparent key and certificate management, encryption, and digital signing, delivered by the Entrust Authority Security Manager capabilities.

The Roaming Server-user password is protected at all times and is never passed in the clear to the server. In addition, the Roaming Server does not permanently store any of the roaming user information. Instead, it enhances the protection of user credentials by adding layers of encryption to the user profile prior to it being stored centrally.

Reduce Overhead Costs - With centralized storage, end-user digital IDs become portable, allowing employees secure access when out of the office. Central storage also provides authentication of trusted users for organizations that do not require the additional security (identification) provided by a smart card or some other physical authentication device.

With the Roaming Server, shared seating may be implemented so employees no longer require individual computers. Employees can use the same machine since their digital IDs no longer reside on a particular machine, but are securely stored on a central repository that is network-accessible. With a kiosk application of the Roaming Server, you can provide your clients with secure access to information that you control. This can reduce the costs associated with handling routine tasks and provide more convenient service to your customers.
