File Plug-in
Entrust Entelligence™ File Plug-in provides security for files and folders that are stored on and used by Microsoft® Windows™ applications. The File Plug-in also protects sensitive information from unauthorized access and misuse.
Running transparently in the background, the File Plug-in is easy to use, flexible, and can be configured to match the preferences of the user.
Key Entrust Entelligence File Plug-in features include:
Seamless integration with Microsoft® applications
- automatically protects sensitive information within specified folders on workstations, and on laptops.
- users or administrators select the folders or files they want encrypted, right-clicks and selects the option in the menu, and the File Plug-in takes care of the rest
Configurable and flexible for ease of use
- can be easily configured to suit the way users work (for example, users can decide whether a file is to be encrypted as soon as it is saved, or if files should be encrypted when the user shuts down Microsoft® Windows™)
- users decide whether files are to be automatically decrypted on Microsoft Windows startup
Control over who can read encrypted information
- users can define who has access to encrypted data within folders
- secured files can be automatically and transparently copied to a network drive after encryption, for easy sharing and archiving of data
Secure file deletion and protection of Windows SWAP file
- optional standalone utility provides strong file deletion capabilities designed according to U.S. Department of Defense ('Orange Book') standards
- utility automatically protects the Windows SWAP file (on Windows 95, 98* and ME operating systems), locates hidden temporary files, and securely deletes files from disk so that they cannot be retrieved using a disk recovery utility
- an active 'shredder' icon in the Windows system tray indicates that secure file deletion capability is working to protect the user's desktop.
Enhanced central administration and management
- administrators can centrally enforce which folders on users' desktops are protected and whether these folders should be protected automatically
- administrators can also grant partial or full control of data protection to users
- provides the flexibility to protect data according to the way that users prefer to work while enforcing the security policies of the organization
- protects administrative settings (e.g. which folders must be encrypted, who they will be encrypted for) so that users cannot alter these settings and disable enterprise security policies
* On Microsoft Windows 98 systems, SWAP file overwriting and deletion only occurs at system startup.
