Some
of the TOP Hotels in Bali
Bali's
most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre
sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation,
shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but
most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast
Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north
coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural
centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized
overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged
every night of the week and the streets are full of
arts-and-crafts galleries.

One of the more outerwordly sights in all of Indonesia.
The 3 lakes on top of this mountain have different colored
mineral-dyed waters. Legend has it that in the burgundy
lake live the souls of sinners, in the green lake the
souls of young men, virgins and the pure of heart, and
in the deep-black lake the souls of the elderly. getting
there: Start out up the mountain from Mone, a small
village on the main road. Either hire a jeep in Ende
for Rp2500-3000 and travel the 60 km N.E. of Ende to
Mone, or else take a bemo to Mone from Ende, Rp500.
In Mone a guide will volunteer himself readily. The
road up to the volcano is 3 km before Mone. When you
reach the barrier it costs whitey Rp250 to enter, Rp50
for Indonesians; no way to get around it. Walk 14 km
up the very steep mountain, borrow or hire (R p500)
a horse, or charter a jeep (Rpl000) for the ascent.
If walking, start early and take water. stay: Sleep
in one of the warungs in Mone; they usually have a bed
in the front room for which they'll charge Rp250. There's
a hotsprings down near the river.
