Some of the TOP Hotels in Bali

Bali's most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation, shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged every night of the week and the streets are full of arts-and-crafts galleries.

The train departs after the ferry arrives. From Tanjungkarang to Palembang, Rp1300, 10 hours of green trees, leaping monkeys, lazy flowing rivers. When the train stops, it fills suddenly with humid jungle-laden air. From Tanjungkarang to Perabumulih by the morning train is only Rp750 with student card, arriving around 5 pm. Either continue on to Palembang, arriving 1 hour later, or if you don't want to visit Palembang only pay to Perabumulih and wait for the train which comes back from Palembang at 10 pm. Board the train again and ride it until 5 am when it arrives at Lubuklinggau. If you're still not totally whacked, there could be a place on buses leaving from Lubuklinggau at 7 am for Bukittinggi, or to Padang for Rp3500. Or go from Lubuklinggau by bus to Bengkulu Rp400 14 hours, one change(, then from Bengkulu take a boat or bus up to Padang.
