Vinson & Elkins was one of the first U.S. firms to establish an office in London over 30 years ago, and the continuing development of our London office is a vital part of V&E;'s international strategy. Our long experience in London and our Texas roots give us a unique perspective and a rich and friendly culture, which those who have joined us find refreshingly different.
Our strategy for growth in London is simple, yet effective: to build steadily on our strengths and to focus on the long term. We believe that by hiring the best lawyers and giving them every opportunity to develop their practice in a supportive environment, they will flourish and so will our firm.
If you join V&E;, you will have significant client contact, as much responsibility as you can handle and high quality U.K. and international work. You will be given an opportunity to gain an enviable breadth of experience. With the support of our dedicated team in London and elsewhere, there are great opportunities for professional growth.
Lateral Hires
We view our assistants as the future of our firm. We actively seek and listen to their views. This is as true in London as it is in every office of the firm.
Should you be interested in the possibility of joining the London office as a lateral hire, you should submit your c.v. and cover letter by e-mail to ljones@velaw.com, or post to Lewis Jones, London Lateral Hiring Partner, Vinson & Elkins, 33rd Floor One Ropemaker Street, London, EC2Y 9UE, England.
Trainees
We currently offer training contracts commencing each September. They are not run on a rigid seat system, but instead a trainee will gain wide experience in many different areas, working with a wide variety of associates and partners, based in the London office and possibly elsewhere within the firm. At the same time the trainee will have an assigned training principle (normally the Training Partner, Stephen York) who will be responsible for ensuring they receive a balanced workload and serving as a first port of call for support and assistance.
Vinson & Elkins look to recruit from the best students and we believe our training contracts reflect that — both in quality of training and work as well as in the highly competitive salary we offer (£32,000 per year, with a newly qualified salary of £65,000). We also pay all course fees, and a discretionary stipend to assist with the LPC year.
Training Contracts Commencing 2006
Applications for training contracts commencing September 2006 should be made by way of application form only before 31 November 2004. On the basis of your application we will invite strong candidates for interview, leading to offers of summer placement. These placements will be the basis on which offers of training contracts are made. The placements will be salaried and will offer candidates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a number of legal disciplines and to be part of our collegiate culture, as well as forming part of the assessment process.
Training Contracts Commencing 2007
If you are interested in applying for a training contract commencing in 2007 then you should strongly consider applying for a vacation placement with us for the summer of 2005. We view vacation placements as an invaluable tool for allowing both you and us to assess each other. Applications for placements should be made by way of application form between 1 November 2004 and 31 January 2005.
Applications for training contracts should also be made by way of application form and should be submitted before 31 August 2005. We aim to make awards of training contracts for 2007 by 31 October 2005.
