Alternative Moms Hosting a Site on the Web

The world wide web has many options for hosting a site. These mothers took the initiative to found a site dedicated to alternative mothering. This site features a forum where mothers can chat with one another on issues facing their particular type of mother. As controversial as this topic is becoming, in an age where increasingly "alternative" is equated with morally wrong, the site is extremely popular.

Site Growth on Web is Explosive for Radical Hosts

The unexpected growth of the alternative mothering sites is a windfall for the radical hosts. They began these different sites in response to a need. The lack of good information on the web for the growing number of "alternative" mothers was enough to push many of them in the direction of the role of host. A few were simply company owners who realized an opportunity for their products to be sold to a wider audience of interested mothers.

The approach of the alternative mom sites is to let the site speak for itself, in some respects. By allowing the forums to go in the direction that feels right some of the sites have almost taken on a life of their own. Two of the hosts have organized an event to help encourage alternative moms to be more interactive with one another outside of the web environment. There was one event recently that was a huge success in Los Angeles area, the ladies are hoping to plan more events in the future. An annual alternative mother event in every city is the goal of these two ladies.

Gratitude to Hosts of Sites on Web with Alternatives

Many of the mothers expressed their gratitude at having an "alternative" to conventional mothering sites. They were thankful to have the conventional mothering websites, however, they were extremely grateful to have a site to turn to that was more of an expression of their lives. As one of the mothers stated, "not everything is pink and blue" which eludes to the gender issues that many of them face in raising their healthy baby.

Among the hosts of the alternative mothering sites their are also many types of alternative parents, reflecting both the web audience and society. There are parents who visit the sites that are a part of the gay community, some who are into organics completely, and others who are in the pagan community. The three mentioned are merely some of the people whose issues are considered, by the main stream, to be alternative.

Especially on the conventional mothering sites, that are hosted and found on the web, alternative issues are rarely, if ever, mentioned. The issues include: organic food, clothes; sustainable living, in general; gay rights issues; religious issues; and many others.

Many of these parents are seeking places to turn that reflect their values which is one of the reasons these alternative mothering sites have become so popular. In years to come these sites will only become more popular as the people who decide to become parents become more diverse.
