New Office Construction
|
|
Late in October, 2004, a large barge with
pile driver came into Comox Fisherman's Wharf to start the construction of
our long-awaited new office. Here are the photos to record this event.
Funding has been provided for this initiative by The Softwood Industry
Community Economic Adjustment Initiative, The Coast Sustainability Trust,
and the Comox Valley Harbour Authority. Click photos to

The pile-driving barge slowly creeps into the harbour on a glorious sunny
day, with fresh snow on the mountains... |
Small tug, big barge... |
Rounding the corner of the dock was a very tight squeeze; here the barge is
almost hitting the Comox Walkway. Fortunately, the tide was high... |
Barge in position on the right. Note the "runway" that had to be cleared of
moored boats (up to three deep) and the high tide conditions... |
Barge in it's final position. Two tall poles on barge can be lowered to
bottom of sea to hold it in place. |
Piles are brought by logging truck and placed on the wharf head. |
Barge crane lifts the piles onto the barge. Note the old "Britco" office on
the right. |
The first piling is driven home! |
Excavator works to create a piling hole in the rocks... |
This is not the job for
just anyone...

The platform starts to take shape. |
A happy worker makes an

The last piling gets
pounded in at an angle... |

Keeping a watchful eye... |

The new platform area getting larger... |

More photos coming... |
