Farming and Fishing in Pas de Calais, France

Farming
At the north-east of France, Nord-Pas de Calais' farming is famous for its cooler climate in comparison to the south of France. The region's farmers are one of the biggest cereal producers of France. Clay soils make the fields really fertile, which is ideal for farming. A cooler climate enables the farmers to provide vegetables for the markets such as onions, garlic and other types of vegetables.

Fishing

The ports of the region’s coastline have access to the North Sea, the Channel, and the Atlantic – that’s why fishing has been having such an important part in the region's livelihood for centuries now.

Boulogne -
There is quite a big fishing fleet there. It is one of France's largest fishing ports. A third of France's fresh fish catch is brought here.
