The Domain of Security in Using a Name Register
In the domain of security it is not surprising the something as simple as entering you name to register for a website might be a danger to your identity. It is far-fetched that entering your name alone into a website can cause your identity to be used. An identity thief would need other pieces of information, as well, such as your birthday, birthplace, address and most important your social security number. This information is not as hard to obtain as it would seem.
Scammers Domains Catch Prey with Name Register
The current scam to obtain information is to request it through email. Unsuspecting consumers believe that their bank or credit card company is emailing them requesting their account number and password/pin. They willingly go, via the link in the email they were sent, to the domain of the thief where they are required to enter their name and register their information.
The thief is in the disguise of a real institution and threaten to place a hold on their account if they do not enter the information. Many people have unknowingly allowed themselves to be taken by elaborate con artists. This trick is only the latest in a long line of attempts.
An older internet scam that originated from African countries entailed various people sending emails claiming to be working as a high ranking government officials and would pay a certain percentage out of a large sum of money they would conveniently deposit into your bank account as soon as you gave them the number. Their was no domain involved in this scam, you would just send some random person your bank number, no name register needed for that! The lesson in this is to be wary of who you give your information to and it is the best policy to never email it to anyone.
Domains, Email, and Name Register Not the Only Tricks
Hackers are those people on the internet who can get into everything. This does not make them bad people, as a matter of fact some of our best internet security teams in the world are Hackers. The hacker security is how we can judge whether a system is safe, if they can break through the defenses so can others. There are some domains that have a name register and have not checked to see if it is tamper proof. This is not as prevalent these days, however, it is still there. Just remember to be careful when entering any information on the web.
Make sure that if you are entering sensitive information that the site is encrypted by at least 128-bit encryption device. This device is usually displayed as a small lock on the bottom right hand corner of the website where you enter your information. It is usually indicated by the website itself, as well; "for your protection this site uses an encryption device" are the words you should see displayed. If the site does not offer this protection you may not want to enter your information. You would be correct in assuming the site is not secure unless it specifies that it is.
